Seek Jesus—A Fasting Experience

Wednesday, March 5–Good Friday, April 18
Pastor Matthew and the elders invite those willing and able to join in a fasting experience focused on seeking deeper intimacy with Jesus. Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you,” serves as our motivation behind our endeavor. United as a church family, let's seek Jesus and His kingdom, drawing closer to Him.
What is fasting?
Biblical fasting is the practice of abstaining from food (or other pleasures) for spiritual purposes. Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God. King David said, “I humbled myself with fasting” (Psalm 35:13). Fasting enables the Holy Spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance and a transformed life. Your confidence and faith in God will be strengthened. You will feel mentally, spiritually and physically refreshed.
It’s important to understand that fasting is not a way to get a better response to prayer. Rather, true fasting is a means of fostering a better (humbler) approach to prayer.

How do you fast?
There are unlimited ways you can fast and no “right” way. You could fast from food or from social media or television. You could fast once a week for the next several months. You could skip a meal through Easter weekend or not eat anything for some measure of days. However you choose to fast is between you and the Lord with the goal of seeking Him first and drawing deeper into relationship with Him.
